A lovely evening spent at the Bank’s Stadium in Walsall where Notts County U18s took on Walsall U18s in the national competition, the FA Youth Cup.
Jack Henchcliffe, Owen Betts, Rasharn Altaf, Tyreece Kennedy-Williams.
Kieran Cummings, Oscar Ramirez (c), Corey Bucalossi, Charlie Wilde, Cameron Smith.
Notts were the first team to settle and began to get a grip on the game.
They took the lead on 39 minutes when Kion Etete picked up a loose ball at the edge of the area and fired a shot into the top corner.
Notts the better team in the first half and should have been more than a single goal ahead as they went in at half-time.
In the second half Notts were once again the better team but in a rare spell of Walsall pressure they equalised from a corner in the 64th minute.
After that it was a more even second half as both teams went for the winner.
The referee added a minimum of four extra minutes at the end of the game and in the 93rd minute a long ball into the box from Owen Betts was met by the head of Kion Etete who glanced it past the Walsall keeper to clinch the win with his second goal of the game, putting Notts into the second round of the competition.
Although the winner came very late, Notts were the better team throughout the game and thoroughly deserved the victory.
