As the end of the season drew closer, and before the home game against Coventry, we asked OSA members to tell us which was their most memorable and favourite game of the season. There were three games which seemed to run neck and neck for this accolade, with the home games against Lincoln and Cambridge in the League and Bristol Rovers in the Cup sharing the spoils. An interesting aspect of this was that in two of the three games, one quite brilliant characteristic of this season’s squad stood out – they just never accepted that they are beaten. Against Cambridge from being 3 goals down, the lads rescued a seemingly impossible point and, having gone 2 down very quickly against Bristol Rovers, Notts ran out winners beating a team from the league above, in the FA Cup 4-2. We never heard again from the Pirates fan who tweeted, with glee, “that’s the difference between Leagues One and Two” after his team had gone 2-0 up! This ‘never say die’ determination just so reflected the gaffer’s refusal to accept defeat. No wonder teams did not look forward to their visit to Meadow Lane this season!
Player of the Year
We also asked our members who their favourite player of the season was. At the time of writing this article, we don’t know who the Club’s official player of the season will be but, if our members’ views are anything to go by, it looks like Jon Stead, ‘Toots’, and Jorge Grant are all going to be short-listed. It will be a very close-run race, of that we are certain. There are so many players who have given their all to the shirt that, whoever the eventual winner is, they will have thoroughly deserved the award this season. An update to our speculations on these Awards reveals that Matt Tootle was honoured with Supporters’ Player of the Season and Jorge Grant as the Players’ Player of the Season. A full list of award winners can be found via the link within the above paragraph.
