David Fells brings us up to date with the latest from the Youth Team…
This was the rearranged game from last Saturday which had to be postponed with the youth team travelling successfully to Walsall on the Friday evening.
Notts were without the two players who turned out for the reserve/U23 team against Leeds at Ilkeston on Thursday afternoon – Owen Betts and Tyreece Kennedy-Williams. Charlie Wilde a regular in the side’s midfield was also missing from the match day squad.
Both teams have played seven games and are both in a mid-table position but Chesterfield have three more points than Notts.
So a young team today with only four second year scholars, the rest being first year scholars and under 16 players.
Owen Newell, Stern Irvine, Rasharn Altaf, Leo Marshall
Kieran Cummings, Oscar Ramirez (c), Corey Bucalossi, Cameron Smith
Jack Henchcliffe and Kion Etete
Subs: Mazhi Simmons, Tieran Brooks, Syme Mulvany and Tyreace Palmer.
The game kicked off on a very cold morning at Highfields with even a few snowflakes in the air.
Not many chances after twenty minutes at either end but both Etete and Henchcliffe went close for Notts.
On 28 minutes Newell’s cross is fumbled and dropped by the opposition ‘keeper and Kion Etete was on hand to tap the ball into the empty net to put Notts ahead.
HT Notts 1-0 Chesterfield
Early in the second half a Cummings effort is tipped over the bar by the visiting ‘keeper.
With only a few minutes remaining the visitors go very close to an equaliser but the shot goes just wide of the post.
Notts hold on in a competitive game short of chances to take a good three points with a young side.
FT Notts 1-0 Chesterfield
Good to see Kevin Nolan and Alan Hardy chatting on the touchline at the game.
