Notts County, in which are constantly improving, go into the automatic promotion places with another home win in Alan Harry’s reign at the football club. The feel good factor is certainly here to stay! Goals from Dan Jones & Jonathan Forte proved to show Notts are becoming a unit in league two!
The game started ever so brightly from the Magpies’ showcasing their spirit and winning mentality – with Shola Ameobi almost drawing first blood already in the third minutes with a shot being soundly saved by the Morecambe goalkeeper.
The pressure was on from County, creating beautiful chances; just not being clinical enough – both Stead, Brisley and Ameobi shot wide.
On the 26th minute, Shola Ameobi were fouled right outside the D; a foul which Morecambe would have soon regretted after an awesome finish from Dan Jones gave the Magpies’ the lead; in fashion! Roughly 25 yards out, Jones shot at goal with power, over a fairly large wall of defenders and straight into the top right of the goal.
Notts were not finished there! They were hungry for more, much like a lion chasing its’ prey down! More shots were fired, and unfortunately over.
However, it wasn’t going to be all our day, when, Shola Ameobi went down injured from a naieve tackle. We do not know the extend of his injury yet, but appears to be knee related. Jonathan Forte came onto replace Ameobi on the 44th minute.
Forte’s pace already made County look lively, ever so lively! Instilling fear into the Morecambe defence; Forte were certainly becoming a handful.
As the second period began, Morecambe came out on the front foot in an attempt to get back into the game constantly with no threat going forward however due to our defence well marshalling The Shrimps’ attacking threat.
This threat continued throughout the second half; but County coped. Morecambe did piece together some well, attacking moves; through the infamous Adam Campbell, (“a player shining bright in a dull team” one fan exclaimed).
But it was to be our day when Forte, broke down the wing and got around a defender; slotting home a brilliant finish from an awkward angle – the scoreline were 2-0!
Another cleansheat for Nolan’s men and another win, too! That takes up to 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss from 6 games in the EFL League Two! Something special is definitely occurring with County, should this persisting winning mentality keep up!
